“Dedicated
to Quality Since 1970”
William and
Anne Rawle purchased the one hundred acres that comprise Watermark Farm in
1970. Ambitious plans were laid and the selection of high quality mares
and exemplary performance stallions began in earnest.
Using
the Hanoverian stallion Abundance with a select Thoroughbred mare pool,
the first generation of offspring was produced. A few of the stars of that
venture are: Able Spirit, Again and Again, Adamant, Aurora, Able and Ready
and Apparition. In the 1980’s the Rhineland stallion Dekor joined the
cast of stallions here at Watermark Farm. He produced several high quality
offspring in Dynasty, Double Bounce, Détente, Dark Crystal and Dynamite
to name just a few.
The
Abundance daughters required the infusion of Thoroughbred blood in order
to produce competitive sporthorses for modern competition standards. South
American Way, a Thoroughbred stallion, was brought to the farm in the
early 1990’s and with his lovely canter and excellent bascule he has
produced excellent daughters who in turn have proven to be outstanding
producers and sons that are excellent sports horses.
The
spring of 2004 brought a few changes to the farm - Waldaire joined
the “family.” With an impressive show career and excellent offspring
to his credit, this stallion also brings a consolidated pedigree, superb
temperament and exceptional interior qualities. His first offspring at
Watermark Farm were born in 2005 and surpassed every expectation. The
exquisite type and powerful movement found in his offspring have ensured
this lovely stallion a place with us forever. Son Wizard WF was crowned
Top Foal in North America in 2006.
The
advances in modern technology have allowed access to some of the finest
bloodlines Europe has to offer in the form of imported frozen semen.
Legendary sires and their descendants such as Donnerhall, Weltmeyer,
Absatz, and Rubinstein have been incorporated into the breeding program
with outstanding results. Wyatt WF, Don William WF, Windsor WF, Woodruff
WF, Ruben WF and Daylily WF can trace their ancestry back through these
outstanding proven producers. These young horses have bright futures
standing before them both in the competition arena and breeding shed. The
future generations combining the good nature and high rideability of
Waldaire and these international superstars along with the blood of
Abundance’s get hold promise for competitors at every level of sport.
As proud members and
supporters of the American Warmblood Registry the Rawle family strives to
produce equine partners for both the international competitor and adult
amateur rider emphasizing long term soundness, high rideability coupled
with an exemplary good nature.

Bill Rawle
After
graduating from college in 1960, he became a member of The First Troop
Philadelphia City Cavalry (America’s oldest continuous military
organization, founded in 1774). The members were fortunate to receive
riding instruction and Bill found an affinity with the sport. Bill was an
active competitor in fox-hunting, eventing and show jumping throughout the
1960’s. During this time he was a regular at competitions such as: Devon,
Sugartown, Ludwig’s Corner, June Fete, Essex, Radnor, Loudon County,
Ledyard, Fair Hill, Middletown, Pickering, Rose Tree, Monmouth, Atlantic
City, PJA, London Grove and Potomac Horse Trials. In 1970 Anne and Bill
married and together they purchased the acres that became Watermark Farm.
Apparition and Bill were the 1984 Insilco 4th Level Champions
for Region 1. In 1985 he received the Individual Silver Medal in Dressage
at the Master’s Games in Toronto, Canada. Also that year he and Able and
Ready were the High Preliminary Jumper Champion at the Sugartown Horse
Show.
Anne Rawle
Anne graduated from Hollins University in 1968
with a BA in English. She and her family own and operate their 100
plus acre Watermark Farm near Oxford, Pa. They breed and raise and compete
Hanoverian and Westphalian crosses. Their homebred stock has won
championships at such prestigious shows as Dressage at Devon, and gone on
to win international medals at the NAYRC. Currently her daughter Ellie has
earned her USDF silver and gold medals, daughter Emily her gold medal, and
husband Bill won an international silver individually at the Masters Games
in dressage. Anne has trained with such notables as Dutch royal riding
master Jan Janssen, Tempel Farms head trainer Klaus Albin, Chilean
national champion Hector Carmona, and German international champion Eicke
von Veltheim. She holds a USDF silver medal as a rider, and has trained
many horses from breaking to the international grand prix arena for
herself and with students. As a USEF "S" dressage judge, she has been
officiating for over thirty years in dressage, combined training as well
as driving. In addition she has served US Pony Club as a coach, DC, and as

I have
been very fortunate in that I have grown up on the grounds of Watermark
Farm and had the privilege of riding our horses for all of my adult life.
One of the benefits from breeding and training our own horses can be
easily found in the daily contact with the fine personalities found in the
barns and pastures. Due to the ‘horsie’ nature of my upbringing – I find
it to be no surprise that my life and career are focused on the
four-legged members of my family! Each day that I have on the farm is a
blessing and I am truly thankful for the opportunities that I have had in
my life.- Ellie Rawle
