Competition News:

Wizard WF (Waldaire x Abracadabra WF by Again & Again) traveled south to the 2 day Breed Show June 18 & 19th at Morven Park. On the first day of competition in front of judge William Solyntjes “Oz” placed 2nd in the Colts of 2006 with a very respectable score of 77.3% - less than 1% behind the winning colt Sir Sherlock (Sir Donnerhall/Rohdiamant/Fernal).

Both colts went on the Colts Championship class and while Oz did not advance to the Young Horse Championship class, it was a thrill to be in the arena with a Where’s Waldo colt, a Sir Donnerhall, a Sandro Hit, a Furst Impression and a Royal Price colt.

In the competitive AWR class, Oz strutted his stuff and came out on top with a lovely blue rosette and neck sash from the AWR. Video footage of his big day can be seen here m

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fng5ir33uXg

Many thanks go out to Klaus for handling Oz and Lori Kaminski for running such a lovely show and fellow competitor & breeder Wendy Staub for giving me help & company during the busy days!

Dressage Royal’s offspring continue to impress the judges in Germany! Two of his sons Damsey & Desperados will represent their sire in Verden at the World Championships for Young Horses July 31-August 3. If you remember, Desperados is out of a Rouletto/Barsoi xx mare and was the price highlight at the Elite Fall Auction in Vetcha.

Desperados will be representing Dressage Royal in the 5 Year Old classes. Best Wishes go out to his rider, Nadine Plaster of Pferde 24 stables.

Congratulations go out to Dorit & Hermann Kothe for the resounding success of their homebred licensed 6 year old stallion Damsey (Dressage Royal/Ritual/Grande) now owned by Doug & Louise Leatherdale on being selected for the 6 Year Old Championships in Verden at the end of July.

To give you a rough idea of the significance of this achievement for such a young sire – Dressage Royal is 10. There were 90000 foals in Germany in 2002 & 2003. 14 are selected in total from the 5 & 6 year olds. 2 of those 14 are by Dressage Royal.

It is a continued honor to be able to offer this magnificent stallion to American Breeders.

Farm News:

Our first cutting of hay is under way and already we are immensely grateful to the helpful hands of our neighbors who are quick to stop and lend a helping hand when they see the equipment broken down in the field!!! A million thank yous for the help already received and more to follow, as we will undoubtedly break down again!

Foaling & Breeding News:

There are several more confirmed pregnancies to report including a very exciting ASB x Waldaire cross that will result in a Palomino foal for owner T.K. in 2009!!!! The stallions are enjoying a lively breeding season and have reminded me that there is plenty of time to book your mare for a 2009 breeding.

We have begun breeding our own mares back for the 2009 season and will update accordingly as they are confirmed in foal. There are a few new mare & stallion combinations being tried out as well as the tried and true matches that have resulted in such lovely foals for us over the years.

Hoppy Stearns had her second Avebury WF foal arrive on May 16th. As he was almost a month behind schedule, his name is About Dun or Dunnie around the barn! Here are some photos at 8 hours and then again at 17 days…he is quite the looker with his sabino markings and red dun coat, no? *Photo credit for the more recent images goes out to Janice Thompson*

And since they are all out in the field together, here are some additional shots of Well Maid & April Moon from Janice…

Our treasured Able Spirit daughter, Sabrina, delivered a gorgeous Waldaire colt on May 13th. In keeping with her celebrity foal name theme, this robust young fellow is Wolfgang WF for showing and Puck in the barn!

He is quite the boy and is enjoying plenty of turnout with his cousin Dream Girl WF (aka Daisy). They had an interesting meeting the first day and true to form he is a HE and she is a SHE…very cute and very funny together!

And as she did not want to be accused of dawdling in the foaling process, Southern Leigh delivered a stunning Waldaire filly slightly ahead of schedule on May 26th. This classic filly has great poise and a relaxed nature much like her sire combined with the length of leg of her dam…we are still working on a name and are very open to suggestions!

Farm News:

With the advent of the warmer temperatures, Anne’s students are making great progress in their riding! Picture here is Karen riding our schoolmistress, Double Bounce.

And here is Pat with her lovely Morgan Beau.

We are also thrilled with the progress our dedicated working student Isabella is making. She is pictured here riding my Intermediare horse – Artesian. Thank you Isa for all your hard work!

Breeding News:

We are pleased to welcome our first Dressage Royal filly for 2008! Please join us in greeting "Daisy" (show name pending) out of Savannah WF (South American Way x Able Spirit WF by Abundance). She was born on 4/29 and is a delight to us all with her correct conformation, outgoing nature and lovely movement.

Felicitations also go out to Christine Mohn for the arrival of not one but TWO Waldaire fillies! Both girls have inherited their sire's white markings and are a credit to their mothers genetics also. Congratulations Christine!

Here is Wynona PF just an hour after birth on April 30th. She is out of the TB mare Miss Annihilator (Westering Home/Victorio/Rollin Count)

and Windlass PF born May 2nd out of her other TB mare Pirate's Widow (Hail The Pirate/The Axe/Olde Fols)

Hoppy Stearns has two lovely fillies who are filling out nicely -

Well Maid

April Moon

Family News:

Bill has had a successful second hip replacement and will be at the Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Center for some period of time. Please keep him in your thoughts for the next few days as he is recovering nicely.

April 27, 2008

Breeding News:

Avebury’s first foal was welcomed into the world by Hoppy Stearns of Whizard’s Lair in Conowingo, MD. April Moon is out of Hoppy’s homebred TB mare Hope (Babamist x Jacmel by If Only/Flashy Fleet) and a credit to both sire & dam. These photos are just 5 hours after her birth!

While down at Whizard’s Lair, I took a few more photos of her Waldaire filly out of her Calido mare, Calida – this filly has had a name alteration…and it is slipping my mind! Sorry!

According to Hoppy, the Waldaire filly, “is the calmest and most brave foal that she has had in 28 years of horse breeding.” While April Moon (aka Luna), “ is the friendliest and most outgoing with a strong sense of identity. She is completely people oriented and very sweet.”

Condolences go out to Clair Glover on the loss of her Dressage Royal colt.

The first confirmed pregnancy reports are coming in from our clients for the 2009 season.

Waldaire has a lovely chestnut foal due from Saratoga Punch xx (Two Punch/Hatchet Man/Cyane) and we are awaiting word from several other clients. One of these mares has a surprise for next year…and I won’t spill the beans until we have a confirmed pregnancy! J

Farm News:

Wakanda is coming home from Sporthorse Training, Inc. with rave reviews from trainer Roddy Strang! “Wendy” has been a gem and you can see footage of a recent ride here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46GJuw2N300 She has also been a superstar out in the open – enjoying her trail rides and delighting us all with her powerful gaits in wonderful blending of Waldaire & Abracadabra. While Wendy will be enjoying a bit of a respite, Alexis Carrington has begun her undersaddle training at STI and we look forward to her return to Watermark Farm in the next few weeks.

Congratulations go out to our working student Sara for moving up successfully from Preliminary to Intermediate with her Abundance daughter Always a Lady. We look forward to seeing the 2 of you continuing your success together. Additional felicitations go out to Sara for moving her delightful pony Sand Dollar up to Novice with good results at Plantation Fields HT.

Sara has been working steadily on her dressage and is progressing nicely. Here Sara is working with one of our schoolmasters…

Family News:

Bill has his second hip replacement surgery scheduled for the 30th and our thanks go out to our community members for their assistance with the farming while we are a bit short handed.

April 4, 2008

Spring has arrived! Foals are arriving and the undersaddle horses are making excellent progress in their various disciplines and the senior dressage horses are doing a bit of fine tuning before hitting the show circuit in May. We have also added some new videos to our YouTube account. Please take a few moments to watch the new footage of Avebury WF  and the others... http://www.youtube.com/user/watermarkfarm

If your foal has arrived and I have neglected to announce the birth...please contact me via Waldaire's email account - Waldaire@gmail.com as there have been problems with my epix email account as of late with email that has attachments.

Farm News:
Some new photos of our younger horses are below that show how much our horses are enjoying the larger arena that is now a part of their daily training. While we tend to do more dressage competition with our horses, it is lovely to see some of the produce of the breeding program that enjoy the other facets of undersaddle work. Adelaide & As You Wish are showing every sign of becoming lovely hunters, although they are bold enough to have success as eventers also...many thanks go out to our new working student, Sara, for sharing her knowledge & jumping talents with these two ladies! With the arrival of the warmer March temperatures, we were also grateful to have our senior working student Izabella rejoin us after a medical absence.
Adelaide WF & our working student Sara schooling at home

As You Wish WF & Sara enjoying the outdoor arena

We have also had great success with Ali Rawles being part of our training program...here is Ginger Rettig's Woodruff WF (Wolkentanz I x Southern Leigh WF) with Ali

Woodruff WF

And with our Wyatt WF (Weltmeyer x Savannah WF).

Wallace WF (Waldaire x Aly Alice xx) has also returned from Sporthorse Training, Inc. Lacy was being very, very good in her training and has made excellent progress in a short amount of time, so we have brought her home to have a bit of time to grow and enjoy the pasture before returning to full time training & undersaddle work. It is worth mentioning that she is showing signs of having the forward thinking mentality of horse that would prefer a career that includes jumping. Lacy's canter is ground covering and her half siblings have excellent jumping mechanics. While she is home we will be teaching her to loose jump so as to better assess her talents. Her pasture buddy Wakanda WF, aka Wendy, (Waldaire x Abracadabra WF) has taken Lacy's place and will be at STI for a few months. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Roddy & Barb for their skill and program that is flexible enough to allow our horses to be there on such an adjustable schedule. It is simply wonderful to know that they are in a proper environment to learn about so many different aspects of equine life and are returned to us as such solid citizens who enjoy their work. Thank you!

Foaling News:
Congratulations go out to Barbara MacKnew and her delightful family on the arrival of a healthy filly on Sunday March 29th out of their rescue mare, Hope.

Peg Lederer and her mare Bee also had a new arrival on March 29th! Please join me in welcoming With Elegance (barn name Ellie). She by Waldaire out of B'Eloquence (Beste Gold x Windsinger by Windjammer) and a wonderful product of US breeding! This is what Peg has to say about her adorable new filly -
Dear Ellie,
Thanks for the info today.  I so much appreciate all the help you have given me.  Little Ellie is the sweetest foal.  She has been very good natured about everything I have done to her.  Good product of kind mother and father. I have attached the pictures I was telling you about - first day out.
Thanks again.  Talk to you soon, Peg

AWR/ASPR Inspection News:
Our annual AWR/ASPR inspection is right around the corner on July 19th. Please contact us as soon as possible to secure a space in the schedule and please remember to contact the AWR/ASPR office to be certain that your paperwork is in order also. That means that registrations must be on file and DNA should be in the works as well. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you!

We are filling up quickly and are gently reminding our clients that there will be inspections later on in the Inspection Tour, in case we are full or if this date conflicts with a family vacation or is too close to your mare's foaling date. The later inspections are in October at Mouse House Farm & Magic Rose Farm, both of which are a reasonable driving distance from our farm.

If you are interested in having a professional video (DVD), a braider's services and/or handler, please contact us ASAP so that we may secure appropriate professional(s). The stabling will be limited also but we do still have a few stall spaces available. Health certificates (including vaccination history), negative Coggins results, Farm Waivers and Site Fees must be paid in advance, so please check back next week on our Inspection Page to go over the checklist and FAQ's.

The staff at Bryn Mawr Rehab are encouraged by his progress thus far so he should be home in the next few weeks before going back in for hip #2.

Current Farm News – Our 3 year old mare Adelaide is off at ‘camp’ with the talented Roddy Strang and progressing nicely in her training. She is enjoying the experience away from home and learning all the new things that Roddy does such a wonderful job teaching the babies. New photos should be added to Adamant, the Broodmares & Sales pages shortly. She is currently for sale and is a lovely prospect for sport.

Wyatt is continuing to delight us with his progress undersaddle. He is becoming quite the star over fences and reminding us more and more of Abundance & Weltmeyer with each ride.

Likewise, As You Wish & Avebury are enjoying their training. With 4 Adamant children (Avebury, As You Wish, Adelaide & Atreo) in the riding string, it is a daily joy to have such forgiving, forward, sweet natured horses to ride each day. There are similarities that make us smile and think of the old man with each and every one of these lovely horses…

Check out our new SOLD HORSE page for testimonials for satisfied buyers of horses bred here at Watermark Farm.

Just a bit of an update now that the inspection tour has come to Watermark Farm and continued on around the country.

Ellie studied with Jana & Sonja at Mouse House & Good News Farm and then went to sunny California and met the gracious hosts at Arkenfield Farm in Merced. It was a wonderful trip and the horses were lovely. She was also a spectator at Magic Rose Farm in New Oxford, PA and took some lovely photos of Beste Gold (Belucci x Goldkatze by Gusus/Abundance). It was a treat to see the sources of so many nice horses on both coasts!

We are preparing for winter now that winter is approaching (where did the summer go???) and have finished weaning our ’07 crop from their mommas.

The breeding season is approaching soon and we are finalizing our advertisements for the year. A gentle reminder goes out to our breeders who may have horse(s) listed on our sales page to update us with any changes that may occurred since they were listed. Also we would appreciate any updates with show results, photos or general information about your horses! J

October 30, 2007

Our annual inspection was just 10 days ago and it was a wonderful day! Our sincere thanks go out to Christine Mohn for providing us with such lovely edibles, Klaus Schengber for such wonderful handling, Bill Alphin (A & A Photography), Tawna King (www.thecapturedhorse.com) for photography and Claudia Weeks (and Phil) for doing such a wonderful job doing the videos! Judges Sonja Lowenfish & Jana Wagner provided all the participants with their insightful comments and wonderful feedback for each equine.

Here are the results for the AWR horses –

We are very proud of our Stella (aka Daylily WF) and Rosie (aka Wichita Rose WF) for being such stars on the day! They made us all proud and it is worth mentioning that both fillies dams are by Again and Again and out of TB mares. The older colts (Wyncote, Whodini, Wall Street & Don William) had all progressed from the lovely ‘package’ appearance they had leading up to inspection into the leggy growthy phase. Fortunately, their quality continued to show through and they all received First Premiums with respectable comments & marks from the judges.

*** Update*** We have added some new photos to Avebury’s page…our young man is growing up and looking like quite a handsome gentleman! Plans are being set for him to be showing in the local jumpers over the winter.

Our young Wyatt WF has returned from being started and while he was away ‘at camp’ he mastered W/T/C and he and Ellie enjoyed a lovely hack prior to returning to Watermark Farm.

-please disregard his cowpony attire…they was just coming back to the barn having jumped several logs and enjoying a wonderful gallop! J We will add more ‘official’ photos as time permits.

October 17, 2007

Here is some good news from Janet who is the proud owner of Ruben WF (Rosentau x Sabrina WF). He is just 3 ½ and has just moved to his new home in Oxford, MD…unfortunately, she had to go away for a few days and here is what she is reporting about her special Roo…

"I spoke with my trainer last night and she hopes I never come home…she adores him[Ruben]! She’s working him daily while I am gone...She took him for a walk around the farm yesterday...first he has been "out" in the wilds...and she said nothing rattled him...she expected a little bit, he is 3 afterall...but he was a steady eddie…which just impressed her all the more! She opened the gate from his back - that took 3 tries, now he does it all the time...he is so smart!
Due to both of our schedules, i have been working him by myself later in the afternoons...(I do make sure either John or his wife Holly are at farm - just in case of a "thud") no other horses in arena, or sand arena...he has been fabulous, non pulsed at being alone...I think his attitude originally was due to WHAT am I doing HERE! Which he is way over now...has settled in like a 20 yr old...He has the hots for a cute pony named"Flirt" (very appropriate) and he gets along fine with his pasture pals...of course his appetitte is GOOD! LOL
We are working on basic basics...taking things slow...He is getting the hang of the cross ties...its not that he doesn’t like being constrained...he just wants to look down the aisle and not miss anything that might be going on...at first the black matt on floor was the scariest thing he ever saw..then we introduced the vacuum cleaner...oh boy…now, its nothing..

My trainer wants to come up and see what is for sale…she has a teenaged student that needs a Roo (the girl is into eventing)...and she is so impressed with his start that she wants to meet you all. I’ll be in touch after the inspection to set something up.

More when I get back to the farm…

Lots of hugs,

J & Roo"

A report like that brightens a breeder’s day immensely! What a wonderful team Roo & Janet will be! J

Along the same lines…Ginger is now confindently W/T/C’ing with her 2004 gelding Clay (aka Woodruff WF – Wolkentanz x Southern Leigh WF) and just enjoying having him undersaddle. He has also learned to long line and is progressing beautifully into becoming her next FEI horse. Photos to follow shortly!

6. Oktober 2007 - 210.000 Euro-Preisspitze Desperado

From www.oldenburger-pferde.com/pferde/index_1763.php

September 13, 2007

The show season has begun to wind down for out horses with very satisfying results. Atreo (by Adamant) and Artesian

(by Again and Again) continues to progress at Intermediare I with several high placings. Heartfelt gratitude goes out to Susan J Stickle for taking such wonderful photographs of our two boys!

Waldaire won the Get of Sire class at the Fair Hill Breed Show-- represented by Wayfarer (out of Calida), Whistfull

(out of Hope xx) and Wizard WF (out of Abracadabra WF). Wizard also was 5th in the Yearling Colds and 4th in the very large AWR class. Many thanks fo out the 'crew' from Whizard's Lair for their help and support on the toasty August

day! *All photo credit to Janet Siena.
